If you receive child benefit in Germany (Kindergeld), you have a legal obligation to inform the Familienkasse about any changes in your personal or family situation. This is done using the official form KG45 (Veränderungsmitteilung).

When should you use the KG45 form?

  • You change your home address (in Germany or abroad).
  • You change your bank account (IBAN/BIC) for Kindergeld payments.
  • Your marital status changes (marriage, divorce, separation, death).
  • The number of children in your household changes.
  • You or your partner start working in another country.
  • An adult child’s situation changes (starts/ends studies or begins work).
